Day 14: Accidents happen...

Everyone is ok, but the car is done for. Lane has a broken nose and I have pain in my knees, legs, hips, wrists and back. I'll be making a visit to the doctor tomorrow for x-rays. We had a great time in San Angelo, got the car all buttoned up and on the road with no sweat, said our goodbyes and thank-yous to Scott and Janice. It was a great drive through beautiful country, middle Texas between San Angelo and Austin was just gorgeous. But unfortunately, our trip came to a sudden, grueling halt. We were not but 10 miles away from Lanes aunts house, when a guy pulled a left in front of us while we were going through a green light at around 30-35 miles an hour. I tried to hit the brakes and swerve out of the way but it was all so sudden and I guess he thought he could beat us through the intersection. It was said by a witness that he had run a red light but I'm not sure what happened. Also, the tow truck driver who pulled his truck away said he smelled alcohol on the guys breath. Lane ended up going to the hospital to be treated for his bloodied nose. Well friends and family, what you are about to see in the next few days will be a grim sight of mechanical carnage. Possessions in the trunk suddenly appeared at our feet, the car lurched on for a few revolutions, trying to keep running until finally coming to a halt. One headlight, still shining on in the night, and we sat surrounded by coolant and cast iron. I'm not sure what to do at this point, it's 1:41AM and I'm more awake than ever after the whole incident. More pictures to come in the next couple of days.
